Benefits of CST

What is Craniosacral Therapy (CST)?
CST is a deeply profound therapy that helps connect a person with the 'Self', it is a form of counselling for the body. I listen to your body with my hands, in the same way a counsellor listens to your words. Using a very light touch, restrictions in your body may be felt by me and released, aiding your body to return to fluidity and balance. CST helps elevate your body to the rest and restore phase of our nervous system, which is so often lacking in our busy lives.

Who is it for?

The therapy is so gentle and non-invasive it is suitable for everyone from newborn babies to the elderly. It works with the whole body. During a session  a written case history is taken. You then lie fully clothed on a couch, usually on your back or side, or sometimes sitting in a chair. I then use my hands to make a light contact from your head (cranium) to the base of your spine (sacrum).

CST benefits for babies

For babies During birth a baby is completely compressed.

Sometimes their little bones can end up in the wrong place; they may slide over each other and stay stuck, especially in the cranium (skull). Compression of the spine may also occur. When compression occurs, if not released it can limit the space and prevent the growth of the brain which in-turn may impede the workings of the whole body.

CST allows the therapist to find stuck areas and by engaging with the craniosacral system, with a very light touch, help to release these stuck areas. This can help breathing problems, sucking and feeding issues, colic, digestive symptoms, sleep problems, improve bonding. My niece would not stop crying as a baby and screamed for 9 months, with very little sleep for all. During her first session of CST she fell asleep on the table and from that moment on was a different child.

CST benefits in pregnancy and adults

In Pregnancy

CST due to its gentle touch  is safe in pregnancy. It can help with minor ailments such as back pain. We know that stress in the mother can affect the fetus, so by helping to balance the nervous and hormonal systems in the mother the baby benefits greatly. It also helps prepare the mother for the birth.

For Adults

Our nervous systems are excellent at managing our bodies at times of stress. However, every form of stress, whether physical, emotional, psychological or trauma can delay this repair work and so the body starts to ‘function a little less perfectly’. We may start to experience headaches, feel tired all the time, anxious, run down, bloated, irritable, disconnected, to name just a few. This is where craniosacral therapy can help the therapist can find the blockages in the system; release them and allow the body to heal itself.
